Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t

Top Ten Tuesday

(Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish)

Well, if this isn’t an easy list to make. The more rereads I do each year the more picky I become and even though there are still a shit ton of releases I’m interested in, there aren’t that many 2016 releases that I regret not having read yet. FOCUSING ON THE GOOD STUFF.

Crooked Kingsdom by Leigh Bardugo
My plan was to binge read the duology but I haven’t even started Six of Crows yet. Definitely doing that in 2017 though!

Timekeeper by Tara Sim
Everyone seems to love this book and if it wouldn’t have been for my reading slump at the end of the year, I’m sure I would have read it.

The Last Mortal Bond by Brian Staveley
So I kind of avoided this on purpose because I really don’t want this trilogy to end yet. Gotta read it soon though, before its companion Skullsworn comes out.

Faller by Will Mcintosh
I find the concept of losing your memory super interesting so EVERYONE losing theirs can only make a good story, right?

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
I LOVED Blake’s Anna duology and I’m so behind on her new books.

Life Debt by Chuck Wendig
I only read Aftermath, the first book in this Star Wars series, recently, but loved it and need to hurry up and read Life Debt already.

Join by Steve Toutonghi
This seems kind of similar to Sense8 which I LOVE so it’s kinda embarrassing that I still haven’t read it yet. SOON THOUGH.

Stars Above by Marissa Meyer
I have absolutely no idea what’s going on but something isn’t right here. I better read this soon.

The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig
I blame my YA slump for this one because this is calling to me in so many ways. Here is hope I’ll make time for it in 2017.

The Queen of Blood by Sarah Beth Durst
I was SO excited about this one but then heard not so great things so I lost my motivation to pick it up. Still want to give it a try in 2017 though.

Have you read any of these? Anything I better read ASAP?

  • Last mortal bond!! I’m actually waiting for the (US) paperback release, the wait is excruciating! This cover is so beautiful, my favourite of the three!
Timekeeper looks so cute!! I hope to read it in 2017 too!
I’m waiting for the paperback for Queen of Blood also! That cover omg *_* I saw a not so great review but my hopes are still very high!

    • I got The Last Mortal Bond as an ebook, thinking I really don’t want to wait all this time for the PB and now here I am haha. If I wait a little longer I might as well read the PB.

  • Haha almost all of these could have made my list, too but I have like 12 others instead haha. How am I so bad at this reading thing?!

I did not realize Join is similar to Sense8! I’m on a sci-fi roll anyway so should make a point of reading it sooner.

    • Let’s just try to make it really hard for us to even come up with 10 books for this list in a year (as if).

I’m not sure if it actually is similar to Sense8 but the only thing I still remember from Join’s summary is them sharing a mind or something so…

  • Eeep, I really want to read Queen of Blood too! Mostly because it sounds royal and scary and that’s my kind of book. :’) And omg I loved The Emperor’s Blades so much I lost my mind. (Not a hard thing I realise.?) So I’m really excited to finish off that trilogy this year and then obsess over waiting for the companion novel.
BOTH OF US NEED TO READ STARS ABOVE ASAP.
And Timekeeper is so adorable afjdkasld I loved it!

    • Oh, you’re in for a treat with The Providence of Fire! It’s even better than Emperor’s Blades!
(and the companion is already releasing in April, so not much waiting to do)

YES, YES WE DO. It’s so embarrassing.

  • I have a review copy of Faller that I didn’t get to either, kind of mad at myself. But hopefully this year?? And I definitely want to read the Six of Crows series, I think I own both books, so there’s no excuse!

    • I have a review copy of Faller too! And I was so exited to read it early but then it never happened

  • I want to read Crooked Kingdom, too. But first I need to reread Six of Crows when I’m in the right mood and actually enjoy it. >.<

I keep seeing Timekeeper! I guess I'll wait until you read it to decide if I want to, lol.

Join! I need to read that soon, too.

LOL to Stars Above. So much for our buddy read. xD

    • You listened to the audiobook of SoC right? Maybe you have more luck with the book instead!?

I still remember when you got Stars Above and we were like, yes let’s read this soon and now it’s been a year!? LOL

      • Nope, I read it. I was so excited for the gorgeous black pages. But I really hope it was my mood, because I did end up liking it at the very end! I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

        Ha, yeah, about that… xD

  • You should read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom ASAP! It took me ages to get round to six of crows but it didn’t take me long to become obsessed with the duology and trust me you’ll want to binge read them after finishing the first one!

    • I started reading it yesterday! I was a little surprised by their age (thought some of them were more like in their 20s) but I’m enjoying it so far.

  • READ STARS ABOVE! So worth the read! The last novella is to DIE FOR!

  • Oooh there are some books in here that I REALLY REALLY LOVE. But you can probably guess which one is the most loved, lol.

Crooked Kingdom was probably my most anticipated read of the year last year! I have zero chill and no patience so I rushed through. I hope you like when/if you do!

    Timekeeper was cute!

THE LAST MORTAL BOND aka my top book out of 325 last year. Staveley is SO GOOD. I cannot waaaait for Skullsworn. And then hopefully another trilogy in this world.

  • I haven’t read Stars Above or Crooked Kingdom either… oops. In fact the only book on this I read was Three Dark Crowns, and tbh it was pretty disappointing (the last 20% was great, but the rest I was either bored or getting very very annoyed with some of the romances) but hopefully you enjoy it more than I did.

The Girl from Everywhere is one book I want to buy at some point I think! I was also intrigued by The Queen of Blood but kind of forgot it was a thing until I saw it here haha
