Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is actually “Top Ten Books That Will Make You Swoon” but I couldn’t come up with ten books that would fit in this category (I bet once I see your lists I will notice lots of books that I could have included).
With me still being stuck in the world of The Archived, I thought I would make a list of quotes from The Archived and The Unbound about the wonderful, swoon worthy Wesley Ayers.
His smile reminds me of the paintings here. I don’t think any of them hung straight. One side of his mouth tilts up like that, like it’s not set level. He has several inches of spiked black hair, and I’m pretty sure he’s wearing eyeliner.
And then , instead of shaking my hand, he gives a theatrical bow and brushes his lips against my knuckles, and I can’t breathe. […] “What?” he says. “That’s custom, you know. Right to right, hand shake. Left to right, kiss. I thought it was an invitation.”
I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun getting to know a guy in a book. And it sure didn’t take me long to completely love this guy.
“‘The sun retreats.'” Wes says softly, reverently. “‘The day, outlived, is o’er. It hastens hence and lo, a new world is alive.'”
My eyebrows must be creeping up, because when he glances over his shoulders at me, he gives his slanted smile.
“What? Don’t look so surprised. Beneath this shockingly good hair is something vaguely resembling a brain.”
“What have we here?” he asks.
“Required reading,” I say, starting to scrub the counter.
“It’s a shame they do that,” he says, thumbing through the pages. “Requirement ruins even the best books.”
“Have you read it?”
“A few times,” My eyebrow arch, and he laughs. “Again with the skepticism. Looks can be deceiving, Mac. I’m not all beauty and charm.”
He reads! What more do you need? :D And he actually starts reading that book (Dante’s Inferno) out loud to her!
Mom looks caught off guard by the smile, the open, easy way he does it. I know I am.
He doesn’t even flinch when she takes his hand.
“I can see why my daughter likes you.”
Wesley’s smile widens as his hand slips back to his side. “Do you think she’s falling for my dashing good looks, my charm, or the fact I supply her with pastries?”
“What’s the matter, Mac?” he says. “Are you finally falling victim to my devilish good looks? I knew it was only a matter of time.”
Okay, it’s starting to sound like he is always talking about his good look. But the way he does that… he always makes me laugh. And I really fell for his charm (probably even faster than Mac did :D)
His back is to me. His shoulders are narrow but strong. Defined. I feel my skin warm as my gaze tracks between his shoulder blades and down the slope of his back. Halfway down the curve of his spine is a shallow red cut, […]
“I’m going to need you to put your shirt back on,” I say.
“Why?” he says, arching a brow. “Having trouble concentrating?”
“A little,” I admit. “But mostly you’re just sweaty.”
His smile goes mischievous.
“Ugh no, wait – ” I start, but it’s too late. He’s already closing the gap between us, snaking his arms around my back and pulling me into hug.
Sexy times! That first one is from my top favorite scene from The Archived. Wish I could have quoted the whole scene but that would be spoilery.
[…] and I look down to see Wesley’s hand wrapped around mine, his eyes bleary but open. He must misread the shock and fear in my eyes for the echoes of a nightmare […] because he doesn’t ask what’s wrong. Instead he climbs onto the bed beside me and rolls me in against him, his arms wrapped around my waist.
“I won’t let anyone hurt you,” he whispers sleepily into my hair.
“[…] I care about you, Mackenzie, and because of that, it’s never not going to be my fight.”
Sigh! I love how they always look out for each other.
