(Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish)
I’m really not a fan of contemporary but spice it up with a little magical realism and I go all HERE FOR IT. Too bad that magical realism books are still a rare breed and pretty hard to find, meaning when I find one I love, I LOVE it. Not having a whole lot of books in that genre makes today’s Top Ten Tuesday list quite easy though.
Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
THIS. BOOK. I really need to re-read
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
Do I even need to say anything? *waits for third copy to arrive*
The Lost & Found by Katrina Leno
Would have loved this one even without the magical realism and that says a lot
The Vanishing Season by Jodi Lynn Anderson
This one made me angry AF and I loved it for it!?
The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma
Nova Ren Suma is the queen of magical realism
Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma
My first ever magical realism book and still one of my favorites
(Don’t You) Forget About Me by Kate Karyus Quinn
I’m not the only one with that song stuck in her head now, right?
The Book of Speculation by Erika
This one caught me completely by surprise. Mermaids, mysterious book and a family saga = GREAT.
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
Another book that made me quite angry, but in a good way, kind of
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
My favorite Gaiman so far (of the few I’ve read)
Do you like to read magical realism? What are your favorites?
