All About Books

Recap: June 2017

May was already a month of not enough reading and somehow June got worse. I knew I would be quite busy in June but thought I would spend all my afternoons reading to relax but ended up being busy then too. I DON’T APPROVE. I’m sad how few audiobooks I manage to listen to at the moment, only one in June to be exact, which literally took me all month. I did read quite a lot of comics though (and quit reading anything else during those last two weeks LOL). I really miss reading big chunky books.

All them Books

Still very disappointed in myself that I dropped below the 50% reread mark. I would have to reread like 12 books in a row to get back to 50% and while I’m definitely gonna try, I also have some catching up to do on review copies. The reader-life is hard! Slowly getting there though because I finally reread 3 (out of 8) books again which is already better than May was. Also: LOOK AT ALL THEM 5-STAR READS! June definitely was a month of (new) favorites.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarer #1) by Becky Chambers
Abaddon’s Gate (The Expanse #3) by James S.A. Corey
The Tiger’s Daughter (Their Bright Ascendency #1) by K. Arsenault Rivera
Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children #2) by Seanan McGuire
Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire
Hold Back the Stars by Katie Khan
Behind the Mask: A Superhero Anthology by Various
Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2) by Victoria Schwab

Comics

I have a new obsession and that is the BatFam! My comic book reading has increased by so much lately that I might MAYBE stop tracking comics on Goodreads. They just completely blow up my reading challenge LOL.

Wonder Woman Vol.1 by Brian Azzarello
Nightwing (1995) #1-4 by Denny O’Neil
Nightwing Year One by Scott Beatty
Robin Year One by Scott Beatty
Batgirl Year One by Scott Beatty
Monstress #7-12 by Marjorie Liu
Black Canary Vol.2 by Brenden Fletcher
Motor Cursh Vol.1 by Brenden Fletcher
Hawkeye Vol.1 by Matt Fraction

I wish I could say that my current obsession with comics is good because I bought a lot less books this month but then I spend way more money than usually because comics = $$$. NO REGRETS THOUGH because I can’t wait to read every single one I got this month.

Skyfarer by Joseph Brassey

(also: sorry for leaving out the artists for the comics but #LAZY)

All them movies and shows

GUESS WHO STILL HASN’T WATCHED WONDER WOMAN! *ugly tears* I also haven’t watched anything else all month but slowly made my way through a single show: The Blacklist which is GREAT.

All them songs

I certainly can’t complain about the music this month and Spotify was surprisingly good at putting together playlists this time. There were definitely a few songs that I want to add to my July list too (like Krewella’s newest one).

How was June for you? Read any good books?

  • Yay for the Wayward Children series! It’s one of my favorites and I can’t wait for the next one.

  • So the Wayfarer books are worth reading? I added the first one to my wishlist after a nice guy in Waterstones recommended it but I haven’t had a reason to actually buy it. I’M GONNA DO IT.

  • I think we’re going to see Wonder Women (in English) on Tuesday! Come with us? :P

I hope you get more reading time in July! I managed to read quite a few books, including a few 5-star reads, but I’m failing miserably on rereads. TSS was my first reread since March! I’ve also listened to half as many audiobooks as last year. But at least I DNF’d the terrible German one I was listening to and listened to The Providence of Fire instead. SO GOOD.

I can’t wait to read The Tiger’s Daughter! I hope I love it as much as you did.

  • I fully expected my June to be worse reading wise and it wasn’t which strange but I’ll take it.

LOL I still have about 3 hours on the audiobook that I started in June. It’s amazing but gah, I just need some uninterrupted time to finish it.

Don’t stop adding comics to Goodreads! Just increase your challenge. I stumbled upon someone’s profile and can you believe that person had a 2K+ challenge because all he did was read comic issues all year long haha. Channel that person. XD

I decided to get The Witch Who Came In From the Cold when I saw you add it since it was only a dollar so I hope we both like it. I really want to read Brian Azzarello’s run of Wonder Woman, I’ve heard that it’s awesome. Oh hey, time to also catch up on The Wicked + The Divine.

You should also listen to the original version of Talking Body by Tove Lo, I think you might like it. Probably less, though as it happens with listening to covers first and originals second, if ever =P
