I’ve always liked to re-read books but in 2015 I re-read a lot more books than I usually do, especially during the last few months. I was having a blast! I didn’t care how many new releases are out there and that there are so many other books that I haven’t read yet. I was just having way too much fun (or pain but as I like being in pain…). So I set myself the goal for 2016 to keep going like this and re-read at least three books each month.
Re-reading books in a series for the release of the next book is almost a necessity for me because my memory sucks and I forget pretty much everything. That means that I spend a huge part of January re-reading just one series in preparation for the only January release I was interested in: The Bands of Mourning (Let’s not talk about the fact that I didn’t end up getting a copy in January but still have to wait another few days).
I actually re-read (almost) all Harry Potter books back in December and just didn’t manage to read the last 90 (NINETY! Urg!) pages of the last book before the year was over. I’m now questioning my own life decisions because WHY HADN’T I RE-READ THEM BEFORE? I’ve only re-read the first three before and was reminded of how amazing these books are but for some reason didn’t continue. I’m glad I finally re-read them all and I already see myself re-reading them again in the not so distant future.
These days I’m just always in the middle of one of the Raven Cycle books. This time I only re-read bits and pieces over a few months which was great because I had daily doses of Ronan Lynch but still got to read many other books. I guess I don’t have to mention how much I enjoyed The Dream Thieves…
ASFDGSDFHDFKDHGKDF. WHAT EVEN WAS THIS RE-READ? I’m seriously questioning my ability to remember ANYTHING. I mean, I know I forget things but there were some that I kind of remembered differently? I’m convinced someone tempered with my copies of the series (we all know who!) because I swear some things I read about during my re-read were completely new to me.
It was also a very good decision on my part to read the Alloy Era books right after the original trilogy this time because I saw/understood more connections than I did during my first read of Alloy of Law.
It wasn’t any surprise to me that I still loved or loved these books even more than the first (few) times that I read them, but I’m glad that I did. It didn’t get to read many other books because of these many (and long) re-reads but NO REGRETS! January was definitely a fun (and painful) reading month for me and can’t wait to re-read more in February.
Do you like to re-read too? How often do you usually re-read? Have you (re)read any of these too?
“Re-reading books in a series for the release of the next book is almost a necessity for me because my memory sucks and I forget pretty much everything” Same here. My memory is crap. Sometimes I find detailed summaries but most of the time that’s not the case.
I re-read two books in January so I could read the sequels. I’ll have to re-read The Dream Thieves too, once Blue Lily, Lily Blue gets cheaper (as eBook) and I can buy it :) I re-read the Harry Potter books almost every year but last year I only re-read the first one (because it was the illustrated edition ♥).
I’m still so happy that you re-read Harry Potter. Now you just need to listen to the audiobooks read by Jim Dale. :D
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue on with the Mistborn series after the original trilogy, but I think I need to re-read those three and then (hopefully) keep going. Wish me luck!
You already know this, but YESSS, I love to re-read. You actual re-read more than I did this month, though. I only had 5, 4 of which were audiobooks, haha. If they’re favorites, I can listen to the audiobooks over and over. I may zone out a lot, but I still enjoy them. When I was younger, though, I read my favorite books so many times, I can’t keep track. I really wish I knew how many times I’ve read the first three Harry Potter books, but I’m sure it’s at least 20.
Oh well, that reminds me that there are like 3812 books I’ve wanted to reread for months or years now, but I never do because there are so many books out there that I haven’t read yet. The only occasion on which I re-read books is the same you mentioned, to refresh my memory before going on with a series. My plan for this year is to finish some series and re-reading will luckily definitely be a part of it, but there are also some others that I hope I’ll get to. Especially the last three Harry Potter books which I read like 5-10 years ago and reeeally need to do that again.

I used to reread really frequently, but not so much anymore. I totally get what happened to you whilst reading the Mistborn series though – sometimes that happens to me, and I’m like WHAAAT I DONT REMEMBER THIS or I SWEAR THIS TURNED OUT A DIFFERENT WAY… xD Memory can be so fickle.. xD
