Top Ten Favorite Comics

Top Ten Tuesday

(Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish)

I’m trying really hard (but fail) not to get too much into comics and limit myself in the number of series I read because comics = $$$. So there aren’t that many comics/series to choose from yet but the ones that made the list are THE BEST because they were the chosen ones, deserving all my money.

The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie
Gods as popstars + AMAZING art = favorite comic

Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie
MISS AMERICAAAA. Latin-American LGBTQ teen super hero! What more do you need!? (okay, there is also kid Loki <3)

Saga by Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples
A+ diversity in space. Also: funny, unique, dark, action-packed AND one of the main character is a book nerd.

Mockingbird by Chelsea Cain and Kate Niemczyk
If you want feminism in your comics, this is the one to read! I’m still VERY upset this was canceled after so few issues.

Paper Girls by Brian Vaughan, Cliff Chiang and Matt Wilson
Paper Girls was so not what I expected but WAY BETTER = epic parallel world/time travel stuff combined with amazing art.

Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda
This is the most amazing comic I have ever seen. I’ll never get over Sana’s amazing style. And the story is deliciously dark with the right amount of cute on top.

Loki: Agend of Asgard by Al Ewing and Lee Garbett
This series and the Journey into Mystery comics (by Kieron Gillen) are a MUST if you like Loki. You’re totally missing out if you don’t read these. I mean: GENDER. FLUID. LOKI. Yep, he is canonically genderfluid.

East of West by Jonathan Hickman,  Nick Dragotta, Frank Martin
Mash up of SciFi and Western, about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with a diverse cast of characters. Definitely weird (but good weird) and dark at times.

A-Force by G. Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennett, Jorge Molina
LOTS of amazing lady superheroes kicking ass, including my favorite America Chavez and Loki.

Black Widow by Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, Matthew Wilson
I’ve always been a fan of Black Widow in the MCU but this is the first comic version I like and I like it a lot.

What are your favorite comics? Have you read any of these too?

  • I hope you’ll let me read more of your comics next time I visit! I’m soooo tempted to buy the next issue of Monstress, but NOT ALLOWED TO BUY BOOKS. (And they seriously are so expensive.) That’s one of the things I’ll miss most about my library. But they have Miss Marvel and the first two volumes of The Wicked + The Divine, so I’ll see what I have time for in the next 4.5 weeks.

  • I love both Loki: Agent of Asgard and A-Force! They’re both really awesome series. I’ve been wanting to read Young Avengers for quite some time now, so it’s great to hear you liked it. And I’m definitely going to add Mockingbird and Black Widow to my list because they sound really good!

  • I need to read Saga and Paper Girls (that one is everywhere)- and that’s the first time I’ve seen that Black Widow one but it looks good.

  • I do want to try that Loki series! Great list!

  • I really wish Young Avengers would go on sale so that I could finally read it this year!

Oops, I totally forgot about continuing Loki: Agend of Asgard. XD

Still not sure if I’d like East of West but I think I’ll get the first volume and see.

I had no idea you liked Black Widow! Finally one comic series about her that’s not a disappointment.
