All About Books

Top 13 of 2013

I always have way to many favorites to chose some books for a top 10 or in this case top 13 list. I feel bad for the ones I left out. I’m not sure if I’m just very good at choosing the right books for me or if I’m easily satisfied but these are the ones I felt like rereading right after I finished them.

My expectations for More Than This were extremely high. I was afraid they were too high. But then this book blew my mind. Wow! If you haven’t read it yet, go get it! Tell The Wolves I’m Home was the most beautiful and most sad story I read this year. I’m near tears again when I only think about it. Out of The Easy was just as good as the other two. I loved everything about this one.

Both Ready Player One and Penumbra’s 24 Hour Book Store have to be on this list because they are unique and just damn awesome. Both tell stories like I’ve never read before and I just felt at home while reading them. Winger and Light are both books that made me cry at the end, for very different reasons though. I already loved Andrew Smith’s writing from his Marbury Lens series but now I know that he is just as good in writing contemporary. Maybe even better. Light is the perfect ending for an amazing series.

I only read The Final Empire recently but it completely got me. It’s not even fast paced but I fell in love with the characters and the world Brandon created. Sea of Shadows is Kelley’s first epic fantasy novel and it really is epic. Can’t wait to continue with these two series. The Bone Season was kind of a surprise. I only bought it because I met the author and was then kind of shocked how good it was. White Space is the most confusing book I ever read and that’s what I loved about it. The Dream Thieves has to be on this list of course. You just have to fall in love with these characters. The Hollow City belongs on this list because it really creeped me out and surprised me with a plot twist I didn’t expect.

  • I do only know “Out of the Easy” and “Light” out of your list. But both are awesome and I enjoyed reading them just as you did.
Penumbra’s 24 Hour Book Store and the Maggie Stiefvater series are on my list for 2014. I really do need more time to read ;)

  • At least I see with “The Bone Season” and “The Dream Thieves” two books amongst your TOP 13 (love the idea btw.) which are also amongst my favorites.
Maybe books like “Tell the Wolves I’m home”, “More than this” and “Winger” will be amongst my TOPs in 2014 then. XD
I wish you a great New Year’s Eve and I hope we’ll see each other again in 2014, Crini! :)

  • I really enjoyed Ready Player One and Mr. Penumbra’s too!

Mag so wirre abgefahrene Bücher ja besonders gerne.

  • I’m planning to read “More Than This” this year, though it might still take a while. Right now I’m not in the mood for it, but sooner or later I will need some Patrick Ness. :D
I’m really looking forward to reading “Sea of Shadows”. Actually, I didn’t want to start a completely new series this year until I read all (or at least some) of the series on my tbr pile, which is why I also delayed “Omens”, but it’s a YA Kelley Armstrong book – what can I possibly do other than reading it?

    • Hahaha, it would take me forever to read all the series from my tbr. I have way to many first-in-series books on my tbr >.< That's why I read both right away even if I haven't even finished the Women of the Otherworld series yet. I just can't wait when it comes to Kelley Armstrong.

  • You have selected so many books as your 2013 favourites that I haven’t read yet. And so many people loved WINGER, a book I wouldn’t have thought about reading in ages (really dislike the cover). Will definitely have to read it now, but maybe a Kindle copy should be enough for now. Happy New Year 2014 by the way!:)

    • But it has the BEST spiner ever!!! And it has pretty drawings! That is not a book you read on a kindle! :P

  • Light! I have yet to read that one, but I <333 the Gone series, too. I also really enjoyed Ready, Player, One. Winger wasn't my cup of tea -tbh- and More Than This sort of annoyed me, but I still love Ness' writing (I just loved A Monsters Call best)
