Recap: January 2017

Oh man, nothing motivates me more than setting my new Goodreads reading challenge goal and starting new spreadsheets (yes, there are multiple, not just one). So I finally put an end to the reading slump and read all them books.

All them books

January was a CRAZY reading month because I started SO MANY books and didn’t end up finishing as much as I could have. which sounds wrong considering the amount of books I did finish BUT that’s just due to all the audiobooks I managed to listen to (which don’t take up any of my usual reading time).

A Song for Quiet by Cassandra Khaw | A+ short fiction
All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai | expectations falling flat
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab | audiobook x2 #noregrets
DC Comics: Bombshells Vol. 1 by Marguerite Bennett | potential for more
Reindeer Boy by Cassandre Jean | Such a cute, happy making graphic novel
Fire + Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore | a reread that gave me FEELS
Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel | reread via audiobook which A+
Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel | Such a good sequel. OMG THAT CLIFF HANGER
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo | So relieved that I liked it (Jesper is my FAVORITE)
East of West Vol. 1-4 | LOVE this series
Death’s Mistress by Terry Goodkind | DNFed, just NOPE
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen | reread to finally continue the series
The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid | wasted potential, disappointing
Binti + Home by Nnedi Okorafor | great, unique, diverse SciFi
Simon VS. by Becky Albertalli | Not bad but just not for me
Vicious by V.E. Schwab | reread again, finally
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta | So. Many. Feels.
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab | rereading too soon but who cares
More Than This by Patrick Ness | reread via audiobook which is A+
Cinder by Marissa Meyer | rereading for Wires & Nerve <3
Brutal Women by Kameron Hurley | Brutal women indeed

All them movies and shows

It might not seem that way based on this list but I didn’t watch as many shows/episodes as I usually do (one of the reasons why I got more reading done again). Most shows had just one episode so far this year but here is hope that I don’t get sucked back in and go back to not reading a lot. Also watched only one movie this month and have some catching up to do as the Oscar nominations like to remind me.

Haikyuu | rewatched because this show just makes me so happy
The OA | hello new obsession! Binged it all during a weekend. SO GOOD.
Orange Is the New Black | watched some and then couldn’t take it anymore
Agents of Shield | MY FAVORITE IS BACK and I love where it’s heading
This Is Us | SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS SHOW, please let us have MANY seasons
Sherlock | much disappointment. That you Bond? (Miss Hudson was A+ though)
The Flash | the first episode after this year already broke me
HTGAWM | everyone is so messed up, I love it
Young Justice | Sana made me watch it and I’m suprised how addictive it is
Blindspot | kinda losing interest
Criminal Minds | seems like we’re reaching the end, just not the same anymore
SW: Rogue One | somewhat disappointing. WHERE WERE ALL THE LADIES?

All them songs

I didn’t listen to a lot of music this month because I’ve been listening to too many audiobooks instead, so January’s playlist ended up being quite short.

Notable mentions:

Night People by You Me at Six | NEW ALBUM AND IT’S GREEAAAT
Wolves by Emilie Brandt | On repeat for months
Jaded by ONE OK ROCK | new-to-me band

How was January for you? Sticking to your reading goals so far?
