Recap: January 2017

Oh man, nothing motivates me more than setting my new Goodreads reading challenge goal and starting new spreadsheets (yes, there are multiple, not just one). So I finally put an end to the reading slump and read all them books.

All them books

January was a CRAZY reading month because I started SO MANY books and didn’t end up finishing as much as I could have. which sounds wrong considering the amount of books I did finish BUT that’s just due to all the audiobooks I managed to listen to (which don’t take up any of my usual reading time).

Recap: 2016

2016 was quite the year and not in a good way (including the worst reading slump I’ve ever had), but it also brought us GREAT books (just fewer than I’m used to) and YURI ON ICE!!! so it wasn’t all bad, definitely not. Considering my average rating this year (4.1) and the number of DNFed books (only 4), I definitely made the right choices re my reading this year, meaning rereading a shit ton of books is the best ever and I’ll do even more of that in 2017.

I already reread books frequently during the past few years but never as many as this year. I ALMOST made it past 50 rereads, if only it hadn’t been for that damn reading slump. More rereads isn’t the only things that changed this year though. I barely touched any YA books (most of the ones I did read were rereads) mainly because I want EPIC fantasy, and YA just doesn’t do very well in that department, sadly. I also got really into adult scifi, buying way more new books than I could possibly read (but when has the TBR pile ever not been a problem).

2016 also had some surprises in store: audiobooks and short fiction. Holy mother of Loki, FOR YEARS I thought audiobooks totally aren’t for me (I started one once and 1 1/2 years later still hadn’t finished it) but suddenly they are!? Somehow I finally made it work and now I LOVE rereading via audiobook.
Thanks to tor.com I started reading way more novellas, this being the first time reading a lot of short fiction that isn’t just additional material for series but original content, which made me realize how great novellas can be.

Best of August 2016

August 2016 reads: The Knife of Never Letting Go and Dark Matter

What even happened to August? Like, where did it go? I probably wrote something similar about July, and June, …. and May, but August was just weird. I wanted to read ALL the books but mainly read short fiction just for my number of books to go back up again.

Favorite Reads

I didn’t read many great books this month. It was especially disappointing that I started the month with a book that isn’t even released yet but already made me feel like a black sheep.

Best of July 2016

July has been more obsess-over-TV-shows and less read-all-the-books. The Flash and Stranger Things have taken over my life and all I want to do is re-watch those shows, watch SDCC panels, and besides work, that didn’t leave as much time for reading as I usually have. I was also in a weird mood because all books I started besides my precious re-reads during the last two weeks were kinda meh, especially Gemina, one of my most anticipated releases, which made me want to pick up a book even less. I did read SOME great books though.

Best of April 2016

April Recap

April was all about The Raven Cycle because The Raven King came finally out. I think it hasn’t really hit me yet that it is actually over. I keep re-reading the series, I keep thinking about the series, I keep talking about the series and it just doesn’t feel like the end just yet because I’m still right in the middle of it, kind of. At the same time I’m super emotional though BECAUSE it is the end. Basically, my feels are all over the place and I don’t know what to do with myself these days.
